We believe that the total cost of recording projects inhibits many musicians from fulfilling their dreams. MUSIC PRODUCTION
We do not claim to be production experts but we understand that musicians and bands starting their journey sometimes imagine simple synth or string sections added to their tracks. Historically this has involved hiring costly experts; which for more simple ideas, and smaller projects, puts this out of reach for many artists. Here at Black Cat Studio our aim is to provide accessible, affordable solutions for musicians starting out - to help fulfil their visions for their music. MUSIC MASTERING
Music Mastering is a much misunderstood element of the recording process. Professional mix engineers can demand large sums of money for their expertise which leads to many musicians on a budget simply skipping this stage. This leads to their music not cutting it when placed alongside tracks that have been professionally mastered. Here at Black Cat Studio we are not attempting to compete with mastering professionals as this is a very specialised field; but what we aim to deliver is a service for bands and musicians on a budget who would not otherwise be able to get their tracks mastered. ABOUT BLACK CAT STUDIO
A little bit about us
Black Cat Studio officially launched in 2019 - but it has been many years in the making.
Our engineer began his audio exploration recording his band on an old Tascam 4 track recorder. He then studied at college and achieved an HND in Music production back in 2006.
After completing his course he began learning his trade through live sound engineering - running his own open mic nights alongside engineering at such events as "Jazz in the Park" and the acoustic stage at "Fusion." These early stages taught valuable skills in fast paced environments.
Throughout the years skills have been developed and equipment acquired while recording personal projects and assisting his wife (who he first met at college) in her recording projects.
It was while assisting in mixing, mastering and producing tracks for his wife's band that he realised the demand for budget services. The band could afford the studio time but the prospect of £200 per track for mixing and mastering was out of their budget - hence why he stepped in. Throughout this process the studio was upgraded with new high-end monitors, control surfaces, plug-ins and audio treatment for the control room.
All the studio needed now was a name - and that was the easy bit. The studio is so called after the engineer's late cat Shadow, whose photo forms the logo - she loved to hang out in the studio. Whenever any engineering was going on she would sit on the back of the chair - she particularly enjoyed her Rock music!
And so Black Cat Studio was born!
